"Jodhpur"The city was founded in 1459 A.D. by Rao Jodha, chief of the Rathore clan who claimed Lord Rama to be his ancestor.At about 125 mt. above the plains, the Mehrangarh Fort looms on top of a rocky hill. It is shielded by a high wall – about 10 km long and with 8 gates and with innumerable bastions.
Legend has it that during the 16th century, fortress-city of Jodhpur served as a major trade centre. And today it stands as the second largest city in the state of Rajasthan.
Stroll through the streets of Jodhpur. Try wearing multihued costumes and smile with the unusually fascinating folks. Esteem, the women in skirts and hip-length jackets with three-quarter sleeves covering the front and the back. Try the wonderfully colourful turbans worn by the men folk. The Jodhpuri - baggy-tight, horse riding trousers took their name here.
