"Mount Abu" is one of the spirituality and of trepidation with its road that winds through regions dotted with huge rocks and high velocity winds.
This is the only hill station in Rajasthan. Mt. Abu is surrounded by the pleasant lush forested hills of coniferous trees and flowering shrubs – it is indeed a green oasis in the desert. Mt. Abu gets its name from Arbuada, the son of Himalaya, the powerful serpent who rescued Nandi, the sacred bull of Lord Shiva, from a chasm. Delwara Jain temples, dating back to 11th —13th centuries makes it a popular pilgrimage centre.
Mount. Abu has been an adobe to many sages and saints. One of the most famous of them was Sage Vashishtha, who is credited for the creation of four Agnikula Rajput clans, to protect the Earth from demons, by performing a Yajna or fire sacrifice,. It was performed besides a natural spring below Mount Abu. The spring is named Gaumukh and emerges from a cow head shaped rock, hence the name. |
